The use of cannabis increases the risk of heart attack and stroke more than cocaine, other drugs, suggests a significant review

The potential risk of cannabis use has been in the focus after recent investigations pointing for negative health purposes.

It includes a new meta -analysis of French researchers, published in the Magazine Heart, which reviewed several studies to evaluate the bond between cannabis and the main adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

The researchers analyzed data of more than 400 million patients involved in 24 previous transversal studies (capturing data in a single time of time) and cohort studies (following patients over time). A study focused on medical cannabis.

More elderly people use cannabis than ever, despite health risks, according to research

The general results observed a significant increase in the risk of main cardiovascular events, including a higher probability of heart attack, a higher risk of stroke than 20% and twice the possibility of cardiovascular death.

The danger was also raised in people who used cannabis at least once a week.

Several studies found more likely to infarction of acute myocardium, commonly known as a heart attack.

A study indicated the risk among younger populations from 15 to 22 years old, while another observed it in patients who used cannabis more than once a week.

The risk of dementia connected to hospital visits related to cannabis, according to the study

A study of the Primary French administrative database for hospitals found that, compared to other illicit medicines such as cocaine and opioids, cannabis was a larger predictor of cardiac attack.

Another study analyzed the association between cannabis and acute coronary coronary syndrome (reduced blood flow to the heart) in about 15,000 patients from 18 to 54 years old.

The analysis did not find any significant association in the general sample, but it was a higher risk in a subgroup of patients from 18 to 36 years.

Consumption of cannabis significantly increased mortality from all cause and cardiovascular mortality in a cohort of patients who experienced a heart attack before 50 years.

Daily smokers of marijuana have a higher risk of heart attack, Stroke, says American Heart Association Study

An analysis of the Biobank of the United Kingdom said that women are “significantly higher” risk of cardiovascular mortality than men.

The greatest review concluded that these findings reveal “positive associations” between the use of cannabis and mace, and that it should “promote research on cannabis use in all patients with severe cardiovascular disorders.”

Although medical marijuana can provide relief to people with affections such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cancer and other diseases, excessive use has been related to possible health risks, especially for the elderly.

Potential limitations

The authors of the French review acknowledged that there were some limitations on the findings, mainly that there is a lower prevalence of cocaine and opioids compared to the use of cannabis.

“Exposure to cannabis was poorly reported in included studies, which prevented our meta -analysis from being valued,” they wrote.

There was also a bias potential in some of the studies due to lack of information or data missing.

“Studies based on patient surveys confronted a substantial bias in relation to the exposure and erroneous classification of results when patients evaluated this data themselves,” said the researchers.

Other potential limitations included overlapping data and limited deadlines.

Regular use of cannabis can be dangerous if not tracked, a doctor warned. (Istock)

During an appearance in “America’s Newsroom” in early June, Fox News Senior Medical Analyst, Dr. Marc Siegel, commented on a recent study that found that more seniors used cannabis than ever before, despite possible health risks.

Siegel noted that regular use of cannabis can be dangerous if not tracked.

“We definitely jumped our gun to not foresee all the medical risks here.”

“You could use a rubbish to go to bed, and then the following use two rubbergles or three gummies, and can increase anxiety, increase the immencement, do not clearly think, ER visits increase,” he warned.

“We know problems with the lungs,” Siegel added. “It can accelerate dementia and can affect behavior.”

The doctor compared the use of marijuana with the effects of smoking cigarettes in terms of heart damage and lungs.

“It is absolutely an active chemical that we must monitor and I am very annoying that the elderly will use it,” he said.

“We’ve completely skipped the gun [on legalization] Because people go to ER with psychosis. They go there with vomiting disorders. As a result they have car accidents, “he continued.

“We are studying Colorado since it was legalized there and the results are not beautiful. We certainly jumped the gun by not foreseeing all the medical risks here.”
